If you haven’t heard, Harry Styles is playing Madison Square Garden. He played last weekend, and he’ll play next weekend too. In fact, he’s been playing MSG since the end of August three days a week, every week, and he’s only wrapping up on Halloween. One name we weren’t expecting on the presumably ridiculously long guest list? Documentarian John Wilson, who apparently has a large-scale film about Styles and his intensive concert run in the works.

Variety reports that Wilson has been filming at MSG since August and that the final movie will feature a mix of performance clips and more traditional documentary style footage of Styles, his crew, and his fans behind the scenes of the large-scale tour. While a theatrical release has yet to be confirmed, sources tell Variety it’s a possibility.

Wilson is best known for his previous HBO series How To With John Wilson as well as his recent feature debut The History of Concrete. Wilson previously worked on a 2016 short doc about David Byrne’s tour as well as the 2007 film Looner, a look into the lives of balloon fetishists.

In an interview with New Yorker last month, Wilson said in part:

I feel like I never really know what I’m making or why I’m filming certain things. But once you have enough of it, you can then begin to kind of shape it into something. Like, I think it’s good to start with an idea. Then you begin to make that thing, and you leave a huge part of it empty, and you allow the world to kind of fill the rest of that in, whatever shape that takes. By the end, you have this strange hybrid of what you intended to make versus what the world delivered to you.

Meanwhile Styles is currently working on making history with the longest run of shows at Madison Square Garden in support of his recent album Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally, which reminded our critics of a stemless glass of orange wine. Revisit our review of “Aperture” here, and watch the trailer for The History of Concrete below.
