Nettspend's “6weeks” pushes his vocals to the limit

His Virginia Creeper EP arrives just in time to soundtrack your most fried Halloween plans.

2026 has been a busy year for Nettspend, who released his actual debut album early life crisis in the spring and followed it shortly after with the wide-ranging compilation tape HIM. That's all on top of extensive tour dates and festival appearances, plus his modeling career and budding friendship with fellow teen icon Che, who produced “nite nite” off Nett’s new EP Virginia Creeper.

The six-track project was largely produced by the pair’s mutual beatmaker CXO, while “same language” is another collaboration with 1Deep, who produced Nettspend’s August single “sober.” While Nettspend isn’t prone to diaristic songwriting, Virginia Creeper does allude to real life tragedy, if only meta-textually: the hook to “LL50” is a loose tribute to the late rapper BloodHound Q50, who was killed last month in Chicago. Still, that song, and Virginia Creeper in general, aims to incite moshpits rather than introspection.

The EP’s standout has to be the two-parter “6weeks,” the first half of which was produced by zoot (he was behind the boards for Nettspend’s 2023 breakout “drankdrankdrank” but has previously only notched placements on SoundCloud). But “6weeks” isn’t nostalgic by any means: this year, Nettspend has been tightly focused on pushing his vocal takes as far as he can, snarling and yelping and twisting his vocal chords to elicit new timbres. “I just walked in Supreme, and I skipped the line!” he crows. As on early life crisis and HIM, stylistic excess warps simple rhymes into stranger rhythms, Nett’s voice swerving from melodic runs to staccato barrages.

At the track’s mid-point, an even harder hitting exset instrumental doesn’t spur Nettspend to rockstar screams. Instead, his vocals are so clear-toned they’d almost seem sweet, if it wasn’t for the martial stutter of snares behind him. Well, maybe not that sweet – “I’m consumin’ these hoes,” Nett warbles, “and I’m consumin’ these clothes.” Not too long after, his vocals dissolve into garbled moans, then snap back to rigid form, endlessly chanting, “Everyday look like yesterday, everyday look like yesterday.”
