One time producer for the XX (and current Young Turks labelmate), Kwes has a new EP that, to borrow a phrase from Zomby, is full of digital flora. In our Dollars to Pounds column, Scott Wright spoke with Kwes (who also turned in an original mix for FADER), and he explained his synaesthesia, which allows him to see music in colors. "I’ve got the hear/see music to colour form, where each note on the 12 tone scale equates to colour, any chord surrounded by whichever note I’m hearing will be a version of the colour." Whether purposeful or not, No Need to Run is a vivid experience of loosely qualified electronic music, though Kwes has certainly thrown the kitchen sink of instrumentation at his songs to create quite a digital rainbow.
