Whenever Nite Jewel's Ramona Gonzales collaborates with someone who exists outside her world of early morning codeine wobble and not-enough-sleep haze, it sounds so clear, but still a little off—like she's drawing her collaborators into her world and then spitting them back out, bleary-eyed and happily confused. "Heart Shaped Rock," her collaboration with Human Ear Music's Jason Grier, is the sound of that process in real time. Grier's murmur sticks to the back while Gonzales floats lovesick and exhausted over the top of that thin drugstore bassline.
