L.E.$., a member of Slim Thug’s Boss Hogg Outlawz crew, joins the flooded vein of stoner rappers that arrived in the wake of Wiz Khalifa and Curren$y, but his beat selection rivals or even betters those two artists (even if his raps aren’t quite at Curren$y’s level of detail). “3rd Coastin,” like much of L.E.$.’s latest mixtape Settle 4 L.E.$. Vol. 2, is all about slow-rolling atmosphere. Every word seems caught in mid-air, like blunt ash. It helps that he works with producer Cardo, whose work on Wiz’ Kush & OJ and Freddie Gibbs’ Cold Day in Hell has set him apart as a strong songwriter with an eye for detail.
