"New York Nights" is the first release from Homeboy Sandman since the rapper joined Stones Throw’s roster. As the title suggests, it's a heavy nod to the city that raised him. DFM's production combines a manic flute with rolling drums, like a tease toward ascension. The vibe lands somewhere between jazz and breakbeat. With signature fluidity, Sandman rides the clutter well, throwing out impressive non-sequiturs between flute trills. The smoothie sensei drops his debut Stones Throw EP in late January.
