Adele Dominates the Grammys

February 13, 2012

Adele closed out the Grammys appropriately and deservedly accepting the award for Album of the Year for 21. Her sixth award for the evening, she cut an indomitable scorecard, winning every category for which she was nominated, including Song of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album, among others. As the evening went on, her acceptance speeches got increasingly brief, probably a mixture of both humility and shock—but the sweep culminated in the most moving and heartfelt acceptance of the evening—a messy affair with "a bit of snot" thrown in for good measure. Her performance of "Rolling in the Deep" (below) was a show stopper—all class and sheer talent—especially in the face of so many mind-melting performances buoyed by hocus pocus and production wizardry. THE GIRL DID GOOD.
