Video: Cassie, "King of Hearts (Richard X Remix Edit)"

Cassie’s isn't a story of unrealized potential so much as it's about sadistically bottling anticipation and never allowing a release. You can't follow her career so much as close your eyes and hope when you open them she won't be gone forever. When songs like this one leak out, or like when "Official Girl" came out five years ago or Deadboy's remixes from 2010, it's hard not to get overexcited, hard to hear straight. But this feels real: British producer Richard X, formerly Girls on Top and a collaborator with Annie and M.I.A., just remixed his way into the Cassie hall of fame, refashioning a delicate and detached frame for "King of Hearts" that's more dance than R&B, exactly where she was meant to be all along.
