MNEK Wrote a Song About You Last Night—Take a Listen

FADER PREMIERE

Annie Mac just debuted MNEK's pulsing new single "Wrote a Song About You" on BBC1, and we're proud to bring you the first official stream. The 19-year-old East Londoner retains his ’90s R&B/house obsession here, landing somewhere between Craig David and Sam Smith: I'd rather be alone than lonely/ Wonder if you're thinking of me/ Well, do you? He's been racking up writing credits since 14 for the likes of Gorgon City and Duke Dumont, so when MNEK explained that he wrote the song about writing a song, it made sense: "None of my songs start out to be autobiographical. In this case, it wasn’t about anyone, it's more like creative writing." His album arrives later this year, and we're waiting to hear where his pen goes next. Stream below, and look out for remixes from Kaytranada, Tieks and Shift K3y on the way.
