Swedish R&B Singer Erik Hassle Channels Prince in “Pathetic” Video

Premiere: The Stockholm singer/songwriter turns up the minimal-R&B-falsetto in the video for “Pathetic.”

FADER PREMIERE

Stockholm singer/songwriter Erik Hassle spins the Miguel-and-Prince meter to high on "Pathetic," with a growly bass line, lyrics that alternate between confidence and self-effacement, choice cuts of falsetto, curly locks propelled northward, leather jacket… The single features on Somebody's Party EP, out now and a bit slept-on, in my opinion. Released in February, its second life this summer is deserved; last week Chrome Sparks turned in a fine remix that plays up the key line and its staccato enunciation—I'm so emo-tion-a-lly need-y, baby.
