Lontalius Premieres New Single “Light Shines Through Dust”

Lontalius is already the king of Drake covers. With his new, original material, he’s proving he’s more than that.

Lontalius (real name: Eddie Johnston) makes great, drowsy covers of mainstream radio hits using nothing more than a Casio keyboard and some generously Auto-Tuned vocals (listen to his take on FKA Twigs' "Water Me" with headphones—trust me). But the 17-year-old from New Zealand writes and records his own original compositions, too. In a new profile from FADER's 95th issue, I described "Light Shines Through Dust"—the first single from his debut full-length as Lontalius— as "a burned-out song about feeling stuck in love. Despite the warm guitar loop it's built around, it retains the bored sort of sadness that seems to worm its way into everything Johnston does." Listen below, and read the full GEN F piece on Lontalius right here.
