London Producer Prayer Delivers Debut 12” From His Side Project, Kollaps

Listen to “Misery” from London-based duo Kollaps now.

March 31, 2015

Kollaps is a fairly new side project from the London-based producer Prayer, who has previously released on Zomby's Cult label, and Prayer's pal Coop. I say fairly new because they've made this remix for Glasser and this one for Darkstar, but the Kollaps Soundcloud page is decidedly empty right now. That's all about to change, of course, because new London collective/label Grade 10 are gearing up to release the duo's debut 12" on May 4th. I rarely have the occasion to use the word "magnificent," but the release's A-side—an epic 7-minute number titled "Misery"—has squeezed all the other words out of my head.

"Inspiration for the Kollaps sound comes from our desire to experiment with electronic genres to create greater emotional heights in dance music, exploring outside of the usual restraints to write pieces that have deep emotional context," Kollaps told The FADER over email. "The minimalistic structure of 'Misery' blends orchestral-type synths with house-inspired beats and soulful vocals, evoking emotions and telling stories through music that that listeners can relate to." They're not wrong—drift away below.
