On Wednesday Lauryn Hill dropped a powerful rendition of Nina Simone's "Feeling Good," one of many of Hill's contributions to Nina Revisited...A Tribute to Nina Simone, out July 10. Now you can hear a portion of her rendition of Nina Simone's "I've Got Life," interpolating the original with Ms. Hill's fierce new bars. We haven't heard Lauryn Hill flow since the urgent, timely, and controversial "Neurotic Society (Compulsory Mix)." She seems to briefly address the fallout in the first verse of the new track (Listen, mush the words, how they twist 'em / Two thirds of the world turned victim) but the track's focus is the bigger picture of global injustice. It's not the full version of the song, but her verses alone are highly dense work that will reward repeated, focused listens.
