The powerhouse is back with a tour and a new record called Stranger Things Have Happened.

It’s been five years since the release of her major label debut, Light After Dark, and five years since Clare Maguire walked out on her contract and into rehab. But today, the Birmingham singer-songwriter is back in action, with her new album Stranger Things Have Happened set for release on May 27 via EMI Records.

The first taste of her second full-length release is the disarmingly raw “Elizabeth Taylor.” I feel like Elizabeth Taylor at the after party… do I make you nervous? she declares over sparse piano, her voice sounding stronger than ever. Maguire is possessed with an Adele-like knack for alternating between intimately cooing and generating a powerful bellow.

Maguire will play Glee Club in Birmingham on June 2 and St Pancras Old Church in London on June 6. Listen to “Elizabeth Taylor" below, and pre-order the album here.
