Kevin Abstract has developed something of a working relationship with director Spike Jonze this year. The visionary director of films such as Her and Being John Malkovich worked with Abstract and the rest of Brockhampton on their VICELAND series American Boyband. The two directors, Abstract directs all of his and Brockhampton's music videos, sat down for an hour long conversation on the Launch Left podcast, hosted by Rain Joan of Arc Phoenix and Moon Unit Zappa.

The pair discussed their respective childhoods and feeling like outsiders in high school, as well as their approach to working across a variety of media forms. Abstract also hinted that he is set to change things up with his next solo project. "The Kevin Abstract project kind of represents being socially awkward in high school, which I’m low key kind of tired of," he said. "I don’t want to be that artist whose doing the teenage angst thing and draw it out my whole career. So I’m thinking that Kevin Abstract would just be this project that represents my time in high school, then I’d move on and do something completely different."
