"Lately" is Metronomy's first new material since 2016 when they released their Summer '08 album. The song is the first to be taken from an as-yet-unannounced sixth studio album, due in the fall.

Since releasing the most recent Metronomy album three years ago Joseph Mount has worked with U.K. singer Jessie Ware and produced Robyn's 2018 album Honey.
