Johan Lenox's career has mostly been spent behind the scenes. The former classical music composer has spent the past couple of years lavishing rap with strings, arranging parts for Travis Scott, Kanye West, and Teyana Taylor, among others. But this year he's stepped out on his own with releasing a solo LP called Cancel The Party, and today he's releasing another new single. "Throwback Thursday," a collaboration with Kota The Friend and Lil Keed, picks up where Cancel The Party left off, pairing melancholy strings with moody R&B, focusing on nostalgia.

"A lot of my songs focus on a feeling of nostalgia for when I was a kid in the suburbs," Lenox wrote in an email to The FADER. "As the years go by I wonder if that nostalgia is just a natural part of growing up and resisting adulthood, or if the world we innocently believed in back then was really a lie that has completely fallen apart. I tried to capture that feeling of ambivalence in this song. I was really excited to have Kota the Friend and Lil Keed both contribute verses as well."
