Manchester based DJ and producer Anz's All Hours EP, released earlier this year, perfectly captures the long tail of a big night out. So often reduced to just the moments on the dancefloor, Anz built a world in which everything from the pre-drinks to the morning after are factored in across a range of genres, including U.K. garage, electro-funk, and Baltimore club. At its center, though, is "You Could Be," a glittering and flirty pop moment as indebted to '00s R&B as it is to any underground sub-genres.
Today Anz is sharing the super cute animated video for "You Could Be," which acts as a guide to the world of All Hours as much as an accompaniment to the song. Directed by Anz and Lawrie Miller with illustrations by Natalia Agatte, the video features characters representing each track on the EP and covers a 24 hour period filled with imposing tower blocks, vintage cell phones, red wine, and the escape of music.
Speaking about the video, Anz told The FADER: “With the lyrics of the track, there are definitely lots of ways we could have landed on a straightforward, romance-driven video. But to me, the most important thing was that it was shown in the context of a wider project. ‘You Could Be’ isn’t just a one-and-done single; it’s an integral piece of the All Hours universe, and I really wanted to get that across in this video. There are lots of easter egg details for pals who know me and people who’ve been following my music for a while - I really love world building.”
