Crafternoon: How To Make a Tassel Necklace

Jewelry designer and FADER style contributor Samantha Smikle played guest-host for this episode of Crafternoon, and conjured up a necklace in just under 10 minutes flat. Once you get the hang of the tassels, you might want to take a peep at her gorgeous line of jewelry Odd & Even, although we still haven’t figured out how to make one of her intricately designed Xena cuffs at home just yet!

Vena Cava Spring 2010 Show

It’s probably a little unfair to pick favorites given the gazillion looks that have crossed our eyeballs this past week, but we have to admit that Vena Cava’s collection sits firmly in our New York Fashion Week top two. There was a tank top made entirely out of giant safety pins, stunning beadwork and of course lots and lots of endlessly gorgeous prints over jumpsuits, diaphanous dresses and high-waisted shorts—the kind of fun, playful and beautiful clothing that will always take a place of pride in the closet. Friends of Vena, Eleanor and Matthew Friedberger, played the show and we caught up with designers Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai to get the scoop on spring 2010.

Crafternoon: How To Tie-Dye

Grappling with vacation prices and recession mark-downs has been a way of life this summer, but lately we’ve discovered a thrifty third way of re-inventing our closets, taking it back to when our paychecks were called allowances, and basically doing it for ourselves with whatever household supplies we could get our hands on. This new FADER TV series was actually the brainchild of former Style Faderer Erin Hansen (that’s her on the left), and this first how-to installment on tie-dye pays homage to her chilled-out California awesomeness, a stylish joie de vivre that we already miss. Erin is probably on a plane to JA right now with a suitcase full of the best tie-dye the world has ever known. This is how we helped her pack.
