The Let Out: Bersa Discos

This week on The Let Out, our weekly East Village Radio show (made possible by Dewars), Shawn Reynaldo aka Disco Shawn, one half of the SF duo Bersa Discos will be bringing west coast vibes and crazy cumbia jams we’ve probably never heard for a solid hour of music. Listen live to The Let Out this and every Friday on eastvillageradio.com from 6-8pm EST.

Freeload: Vince the Prince, March ‘09 Kuduro Mix

We like the idea of this Dutch dude Vince the Prince flipping through his hard drive and just “finding” a bunch of Angolan and Portuguese kuduro on there like he did with this mix. The internet is one big Smurf yurt. Vince makes aces cumbia jams as Sonido del Principe you can grab over at Bersa Discos, and his DJ alter ego kinda killed this mix of kuduro, which essentially is/sounds like hybrid techno-booty-soca with Portuguese rapping, which in turn sounds like every party we ever wanted to go to ever. Get the tracklist, which includes a variety of kuduro practicioners from godhead Bruno M to a couple songs from this to extra-hot newish jacks Buraka Som Sistema, after the jump.

Freeload: DJ Panik, “Te Ves Buena”

For the next installment in their series of weirdo cumbia 12-inches, the dudes at Bersa Discos went to Addison, Texas and hit up DJ Panik, who is largely responsible for making what sounds to us like trance cumbia that would feel right at home at Ibiza. “Te Ves Buena” abandons the club synths in favor of bouncy accordion and samples from (surprise) El General’s “Te Ves Buena.” You can buy the newest Bersa Discos record here.

Freeload: More Cumbia From Bersa Discos

Shawn Reynaldo and Oro11 of the Bersa Discos label put out one of our favorite totally out of left field releases of the last whatever months, and now they are coming back for round two (buy it here). Featuring Oro11’s epic reworking of Unk’s “Walk it Out” blended with Pibes Chorros’ “Que Calor,” as well as a bunch of other remixes by DJ Negro from Buenos Aires and also one of the dudes from Lemonade that will cause people to come up to us and be like, Oh what is that and then because the internet exists and we aren’t covering up the labels on our records we will tell them because music is for everyone. Also, in their continuing effort to bring cool people to San Francisco, the dudes are bringing South Rakkas Crew to perform in SF for the first time. If you’re there, hit up The Rickshaw Stop (155 Fell st.) this Saturday, June 7th, we will be there in spirit.

Freeload: Cumbia Mix By Bersa Discos Dudes

The nice thing about the internet is that the turnaround time is like .001 seconds on basically anything ever. When we got turned on to Shawn Reynaldo and Oro11’s awesome upstart cumbia label Bersa Discos we asked dudes if they’d be down to make a mix of new and old cumbia for us, and now, like seven minutes later or something, we have the mix—for you, for us, for everyone. You can buy the first in a series of 12-inches from the label here.

If that is still not enough cumbia for you, Reynaldo and Oro11 are continuing their Tormenta Tropical parties with FADER pal DJ/Rupture, as well as Argentinian cumbia producers King Coya & El Trip Selector, Axel K Soundsystem, Tremor, Frikstailers and El Remolón, next Saturday, March 8th at Mezzanine (444 Jessie) in San Francisco.

Freeload: Daleduro, “Bombon Asesino”

When Shawn Reynaldo of Double Negative records (responsible for releasing an album from folkie jamstress Emily Jane White, who we profiled in F51) let us know that he and Oro11 were starting a label called Bersa Discos entirely devoted to experimental bedroom cumbia, we were pretty psyched (ha! Get it?). Below you can check out Daleduro’s “Bombon Asesino” from the first EP, which pairs spry accordion with truncated laser blops, and a bouncy rhythm that for some reason reminds us of this. To celebrate the release of their first 12″, Reynaldo and Oro11 are joined by Paul Devro this friday for the third in their Tormenta Tropical parties at The Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco.
