Video: Juelz Santana, “Days of Our Lives”

We played this song on The Let Out, our weekly radio show, last Friday, and though it made us feel good and New Yorky and whatnot, we still have this lingering feeling that Juelz and Cam are really bummed they aren’t bros anymore, like they’re “doing it” and “can’t be stopped” but really they just want to be shopping for jackets together on the weekends. Let’s bring it together for Summer Jam, dudes!

Cam’ron and His Visor Break Our Minds

Last night was the much-anticipated, sold-out NYC RETURN OF KILLA FUCKING CAM’RON, and despite a soundsystem that sounded like the boombox in our bathroom, it was definitely a fête fit for a dude who’s been hibernating in Jersey for far too long. It was also a proper reminder that Cam is one of the ridiculously best rappers alive, particularly for the first half of his set when he artfully, forcefully, elegantly jammed through Roc classics and Purple hits: Is “Get ‘Em Girls” not a masterpiece of wordplay? Is “Down and Out” not one of the best tracks Kanye ever produced? Then some Z-level Dipset dude in a jean jacket came out for a couple of tracks and we went to the bathroom. When we returned, Cam was running through songs from his new album, Crime Pays, like “I Used to Get it in Ohio,” which is instant nu-classic Killa. It was sort of weird when he performed “Bottom of the Pussy Hole” with his mother onstage, but then, it wouldn’t be a Cam’ron show without an awkward moment and/or some sort of morally obtuse hatefuckery. Shout out to 2005! He brought out Byrdlady for the finale, “Cookies and Applejuice,” she is taller than he is and looks like she could take him in a fistfight which is partly why we think he fux with her. The set was perfectly brief—though we would’ve settled for another hour if it meant a Dipset reunion or a Gucci Mane cameo—and while we wished the track he dedicated to the ladies had been “Daydreamin’” instead of “Suck it or Not,” New York was clearly having it. Forty-two million Flipcams captured every moment. Also, Cam was wearing a RED LOUIS VUITTON VISOR WITH THAT LOUIS CHECKER PRINT SCARF THING. VISOR! Check the video to steal his ‘99 Eminem/golf coach/Loveparade steez and watch “Get Em Girls.”

Reliving Our Youth Through This Weekend’s Rap Videos

Man oh man, nothing like a slew of rap videos from the class of 2004 and beyond to get us hopping on a Monday morning. We missed Eminem’s horror show on Skinemax Saturday night because no matter how vigorously they are tweaked the rabbit ears do not pick up pay channels. But, we did catch the web premieres of former/current Dipset members Cam’ron and Juelz (Juelz wins? Someone send us a sad Dipset emoticon). Then, after watching Inspectah Deck and Sean Price earn a paycheck, we tried to finish strong with Red Café’s new one, in which he promises to bring throwback jerseys back. Let’s do this! Kanye who!?

Freeload: Juelz Santana, “Let’s Cruise”

Something about listening to Juelz rap sex into a Rolls Royce mechanic metaphor and punctuate it with the word “dicklicker” while snow falls on Manhattan makes us almost want to cry a little bit.

Good Business: Freekey Zeekey on the Brink of Thirty Album Deal

Rapper Jim Jones has joined the independent label Koch Records as VP of Urban A&R. Jones will be responsible for signing and developing new talent for Koch’s Urban Division.

Freeload: Cam’ron, “My Aura” + Juelz Santana, “Splash”

It’s no secret that Dipset is on the ropes. Dudes were not spending the summer solstice weekend together. Dudes are not developing dubious fashion statements together. Dudes are not making songs about dubious fashion statements and solstices together. There is no them, there is only the void between them. And there is Byrdgang. Shit is like The Ice Storm. But “Aura” and “Splash” (video here) are somewhat dull silver linings (on a purple pashmina scarf). Patch it up, dudes, THE RAP BLOGS NEED YOU.

Video: Juelz, Jim & Dash Explain The Swag Splash

See, this is what we miss most about Dipset. We don’t even have to explain what’s going on here. Coogi cardigans and Swag Splashes. Pure entertainment. Courtesy of SmackTube via Smarten Up Nas.

Video: Jim Jones, “Love Me No More/Byrdgang Money”

Jim Jones goes three full wardrobe changes deep in the first 30 seconds of this video, which just goes to show how seriously intense JJ is—and has always been—about his sartorial statements. It’s difficult to know where to start with his new Dipset style manifesto, what with all the distressed denim, red leather and silky fringed LV scarfing (scarves are the new bandanas) all up in the visual montage. It’s safe to say though that only Jones and Juelz could ever tackle a look that’s one-part Floyd Merriweather and one-part Mother Teresa, with the same kind of gusto. The rest of the Byrdgang (Cobe) might be better advised to leave that one well alone.

WILD PROMO!

Sure, we could have worn pants while sharing this Dipset Byrdgang long-sleeved tall tee with you all, but that wouldn’t have adequately represented it’s knee-length nightshirtitude. And ours is only the “regular” XL! They make these things up to 5XL. FIVE!

At least we can be happy to have finally joined the pop cultural pantheon of wearing oversized freebies from the Land Of The Piff…
