Premiere: Ryan Leslie, Transition Album Stream

It seems like just yesterday that Ryan Leslie was sitting on a massive pile of breezy hits, trying to get them out to the world. Honestly, it was not actually that long ago, but even so, we’re totally okay with Leslie dropping a whole other record, and even more okay with imeem providing an album stream for us. First listen through has Leslie taking an even more grown and sexy route this time around. There is a song called—get ready—”SUNDAY NIGHT” about hanging out with your significant other at home and listening to records. And how he could probably do that forever. And how that’s all he wants to do. Sounds relaxing. Mainly though, this is an album of light jams that are pretty much telling us that, even when times are bad, at least we have this kinda dorky dude writing music to make us feel pretty good.

Video: Fabolous f. Keri Hilson, “Everything, Everyday, Everywhere”

Remember that time in 2nd grade when your parents came home with a Slip-N-Slide after seeing your sad attempts at making a bootleg one out of garbage bags held down with bricks? Remember how awesome that was? Remember how many glasses of Kool-Aid you slammed on the side of that shit? So good. Ryan Leslie turned it into a song (Still should’ve kept the talkbox though).

Ryan Leslie, “You’re Not My Girl” MP3

R Les channels early Mike Jack on this Off The Wall-referencing memo to his sidepiece that she can be shady and cheat on her man, but shouldn’t expect him to commit. Insert Bossip.com Puff/Cassie/R-Les love triangle speculation post here. It’s actually rather uncanny how closely he’s adhering to the Jackson blueprint (holler at Timberlake), a slight turn to classicism from his normal glossy future-funk, but then he also thinks it is his birthright to carry the torch. Too soon to tell (needs more Margiela, dance classes), but this song is a step in the right direction.

Freeload: Clipse f. Keri Hilson & Pharrell, “Eyes On Me” MP3

We’ll admit to being more than a little skeptical when Clipse said ’Til The Casket Drops wouldn’t be the all-Neptunes affair their prior albums had been, but having now heard three songs and two of them being Neptunes-produced, either our skepticism was well-founded or they were bullshitting. Regardless, we posted tagged up version of this a couple weeks ago, but this is the official jam. Might we also suggest Clipse hand Ryan Leslie a dusty check for the “Something That I Like” beat that Pusha recently guested on? Judging by history, that song won’t be on a Leslie album until 2017.

Video: Fabolous f. The-Dream, “Throw It In The Bag”

Aaaaand here’s part three of Def Jam’s videopocalypse, a lesson for all you ladies out there that shoplifting might put you in the bing but also might get you boned by Fabolous. It’s your choice ladies. Loso bonus clip, “It’s My Time,” with the ridiculous “Your Baby” joint with Ryan Leslie tacked at the end, after the jump .

Video: Ryan Leslie Just Made a Beautiful Baby With Fabolous

Do we need to pause on that? It’s intentionally put that way. Just saying, the song, to be called “Your Baby” according to Eskay, is crazy and also features a hook provided by the rainmaker, FADER #52 cover star Keri Hilson, she of the top 10 album even though it came out almost a year after we thought it would. This video makes us happy because we’ve been saying for a while now that Leslie should be making summer jams for top flight NY rappers (Jim Jones’ “Precious” doesn’t count), and though Fab is not exactly expected to light up Billboard, we do portend quite a few impromptu dance parties in the coming months whenever this blasts from passing cars. Also, Leslie claims the talkbox isn’t on the final record and that is just not wise.

It’s Monday. Here’s Some New Videos.

Most people in the music-related industry, including us, are putting the pieces back together this morning after SXSW, so we’re just gonna throw up a few notable new videos and chill out for a minute. Up top is UNKLE’s new one made up of an edit to Spike Jonze and Ty Evans’ Fully Flared Lakai video from last year which most people consider the greatest skate film of all time. After the jump, our dudes Jim Jones and Ryan Leslie team up for “Precious” off Jones’ Pray IV Reign and Lily Allen stops by the Porter Wagoner Show c. 1976 for her new one “Not Fair.”

AmericaFAIL: Not Enough of You Bought Ryan Leslie’s New Album

According to the latest numbers, Ryan Leslie sold 24k in its first week, landing him at #35 on the Billboard 200. Either something is broken in the Soundcan supercomputer or America has clearly lost the thread. Yes, we implied he was a Sacha Baron Cohen character (twice) (okay, three times), but we also have been listening to the shit out of his music for about three years now and would like to see you repay our, and his, effort with a little cash money. Leslie makes his own case, but he’s probably being too humble in his own totally weird I’m-a-nerd-who-went-to-Harvard-but-I-don’t-like-to-say-I’m-smarter-than-you-even-though-it’s-basically-inarguable-so-I’m-going-to-cloak-it-in-faux-magnanimous-posturing-that-I-learned-from-watching-tons-of-awards-shows-as-a-kid kinda way about how many jams are on this album. Here we’ll list the jams:

1. “Diamond Girl”
2. “Addiction (featuring Cassie & Fabolous)”
3. “You’re Fly”
4. “Quicksand”
5. “Valentine”
6. “Just Right”
7. “How It Was Supposed To Be”
8. “I-R-I-N-A”
9. “Out of the Blue”
10. “Shouldn’t Have to Wait”
11. “Wanna Be Good”
12. “Gibberish”
13. “How It Was Supposed to Be (Remix)” w Jadakiss

Oh wait, that’s every song on the album, oops. Oh well, buy Ryan Leslie on iTunes or wherever you can find it and watch him make “Addiction” all by himself in the video above.

Ryan Leslie is Ryan Leslie in… RYAN LESLIE

Here’s the thing about the man calling himself “Ryan Leslie”: just when some new street posters start to make us come around on him being an actual person who makes incredible R&B, he goes and vlogs the damn things himself which just makes us think he’s a marketing hologram or Sacha Baron Cohen character again. Will we ever get to the bottom of this? Who knows, but we finally got our hands on the promo of his self-titled album this week, and agreed to never stop talking about this album. Lucky you. Ryan Leslie… The Ruse Continues, Expands to Celebrities and Auto-Tune

Last week, we attempted to get to the bottom of this “Ryan Leslie” character, and it seems he, whoever he is, responded by inundating the internet with new and really convincing media. On his Vimeo channel, “Ryan” posted several new videos: in the studio with Slim (of 112) recording mega-jawn “Good Lovin’,” executing 17 heels spins while falsetto cooing at midcourt during a basketball game, surprising an assembly at the High School of Fashion Industries in Manhattan, and most importantly, performing alongside Busta Rhymes at DJ Enuff’s birthday party. He also leaked a new song that is getting instantly added to our pre-Valentimes playlist. If indeed “Ryan Leslie” is a real person, this is all just solid hustling prior to an album release. But if he is not a real person… man. If he is NOT? New York can get real crazy, if you know what we mean. Check all the videos after the jump and download “Gibberish” below. Ryan Leslie is purportedly out February 10th on Next Selection/Universal.
