Live: Amanda Blank and Devlin & Darko at One Step Beyond

On Friday, our third season of One Step Beyond resumed its reign of The Rose Center for Earth and Space at the American Museum of Natural History (whew). Everyone careened underneath intergalactic light projections when they weren’t waiting for their turns on the Find-Your-Weight-on-Saturn scale. Devlin and Darko kicked out all-things-danceable from T.I. and Crime Mob to George Michael and Vanity 6. Party-goers made their way in droves up to the Hayden Planetarium for screenings of “Journey to the Stars”—a scene reminiscent of a school field trip, only this time with booze. Amanda Blank closed out the evening, slinging her salacious set of rhymes with some help from her bosom buddy, Spank Rock. The room may have been dark, but Blank’s outfit, made up of just enough strategically-place fabric to not get arrested, lit up the room and kept all eyes on stage. The set ended with Spank’s “Bump” and a shout out to a magazine that Blank called “the best ever.” We’re still blushing.

Amanda Blank, “Might Like You Better (Rusko RMX)” MP3

The first single from Amanda Blank’s forthcoming album I Love You was a put-it-all-on-the-table, frank dare to a dude who she thought needed to rock out with his cock out, ahem. London superproducer Rusko decided to strip the track of its vocals and transform the original intent into an implied proposition through slinky pornstar wobble and boudoir-y dubstep swag. Both tracks reach the same end: you, with your pants down (ahem 3000!). We’re blushing, bear with us here while you stream the entire album at her myspace.

Live: Nas, N*E*R*D + Others At The Smirnoff Experience New York

A couple nights ago we hit up the New York edition of the Smirnoff Experience featuring Nas, N*E*R*D, Dizzee Rascal, Spank Rock, and somewhat unexpectedly, Grandmaster Flash. Even though Nas didn’t get on stage until around 1:30 in the morning, we were plied with the free drinks and crowd-wowing performances from N*E*R*D and Spank Rock. By the time Nas hit the stage (along with Kelis, subbing in for Lauryn Hill on “If I Ruled The World”), it was clear that—free drinks or not—we made the right choice in coming out to the event.

Freeload: Cuizinier f. Spank Rock & Pase Rock, “Lettre F”

Other than “Iron Man sequel”, “hadron collider,” and “jam”, the buzzwords in FADER HQ these days are Pour Les Filles. Cuizinier’s new mixtape comes out in less than a week and we are gassed (Wait, are we gonna have to pay for this thing?). We put up “Quand Tu Maimes” from it a couple weeks ago and RCRD LBL just put up another teaser with guest spots from the Rock Brothers, Spank and Pase. It’s a sassy homage to Sesame Street and profanity—two things which remind us of our childhood.

Video: Spank Rock & Benny Blanco, “B.O.O.T.A.Y.”

It may not have the allure of animated vaginas and whatnot, but Spank Rock’s new video, with appearances by Santogold, Illvia of Kudu and Amanda Blank is as good as insane B-movie clips get. Directed by Jeremy Engaard. (via RCRD LBL and their humongous video player)

FADER 50: The New Club + Mad Decent Mix

Very few people outside of actual FADER staff have contributed as much, literally and figuratively, to our magazine and website as Philly-Floridian producer/impresario/globetrotter/DJ/good dude Diplo. From helping birth Hollertronix to penning stories for us to continually championing serious jams, he has given us a lot to listen to and think about. So, it made sense, when we decided to reprint our “New Club” feature from the FADER 50 Special Issue which largely revolves around him, that we’d ask Diplo to make a mix to accompany it. The mix we got, made with Mad Decent cohort Paul Devro is, unsurprisingly, not so much about what’s already happened but what is going to happen next, and it is totally nuts. Make the jump for Nick Barat’s feature “Last Night a Remix Saved My Life” from F50, and download the Mad Decent FADER Mix below.

Video: Spank Rock & Benny Blanco, “Pu$$y”

Wow dudes. We really don’t think Benny or Spank Rock are trying to do anything but have fun with Bangers & Cash and this video doesn’t seem to be doing anything other than make us laugh. Unless cartoon talking vaginas are like the new minimal techno or something. Also, the only people 2 Live Crew shocked were old white ladies in Florida. Anyway, watch the video and try to think too hard about it.

Spankasaurus

Philly was all up in the area when SpankRock and Diplo put it down at Rothko last night.

Big Dada-signee Spank was wilding for sure, flanked by his B-More club DJ, a Mets-capped hypeman, and a short-haired blonde booty dancer in sequined hotpants.

The performance also marked the live debut of grrrl rapper Amanda, who spit rhymes about Kelly Bundy, Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas, and, uh, coochie.
