Freeload: The Very Best f. Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend, “Warm Heart of Africa (Theophilus London Remix)” MP3

Consider this the DJ Khaled-style remix for people who veer into weirder lanes than commercial rap. Our man Theophilus London gives himself the leadoff verse on The Very Best’s eponymous new song, with an assist from Ezra of Vampy Weeks, from their upcoming album Warm Heart of Africa. Make this official! Read our feature story on Theophilus from the David Byrne icon issue here.

Freeload: Discovery (Vampire Weekend + Ra Ra Riot), “Orange Shirt”

Our boat shoes just got the hugest boners when they read the title of this post. Discovery aka Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend and
Wes Miles of Ra Ra Riot just got their first song unleashed on the Transparent blog, and without the slightest bit of shame we can say it might have just supplanted The-Dream album on our trance-n-B playlist, played almost exclusively after drinking too much pear cider after work and trying to dance with pile of garbage bags outside that can, NO LIE, look exactly like Penelope Cruz in Volver under the right conditions. Discovery’s debut LP will be out this summer, just in time to get some stank on your seersuckers.

What if you were in Vampire Weekend but you weren’t Ezra? Can you imagine anything better? You probably get to make out all day but with all of the smart fans because the showboat dreamgirls who saw you on SNL are all lead singer focused. You bring suitors back to your apartment (back on the Upper West Side because now you can afford the rent. Or maybe down payment in our low tide economy) and tell them about how Wes Anderson’s main protegĂ© directed your video and that’s only because you turned down Wes, you wanted that new shit (Internet, the dude’s name is AYOADE). Then you joke and say, Just kidding, Wes Anderson thinks we are corny but I don’t give a fuck, I am traveling the world buying socks with every country that I visit’s flag because what else are you supposed to do when you blend rock star with absolute modesty, glee club supernova. Man, what a life. Fuck the haters, day in day out.

SCOOP: Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig Goes To College, Finds Self

Not that we’re stalkers (but not that we’re not stalkers), but we found the two years abandoned blog of Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig. College-era Koenig is feeling it: All of this Riddims Research is getting me pumped for an English class I’m taking next semester called “Parody, Plagiarism and Postcolonialism.” Hey man, it’s nothing to be embarrassed about. We remember taking a class called Feminist Critiques of National Elections. Shit melted minds. Peep Internet Vibes for Billy Joel contemplation, ghost shoe photos, MIA, grocery stores, and a lot of vacations. “My favorite kinds of music are rap and rock.” WE FEEL YOU.

Vampire Weekend is Awesome

Over the last few months we’ve made our feelings about Vampire Weekend pretty clear, and though their album was finally released this week, we’ve held off on weighing in on non-issues like hype or backlash. That being said, in today’s edition of Pitchfork’s guest list, Vampire Weekend keyboardist Rostam Batmanglij uses the word “awesome” 16 times. Which is awesome, because that’s how we talk.

Ah sweet Vampire Weekend. You are playing drums in the snow, you are bemoaning Joanna’s move to Washington Heights, you are wearing polos and playing hollow body guitars and spinning organ circles. MTV2 is playing your video and if we had MTV2 we could call MTV2 and request your video even though they do not do that anymore, we would just call and they would say “If you know your party’s extension, please dial it now” and we would put in 666 and hope it was for Gideon Yago.

Video: Vampire Weekend, “Mansard Roof”

The MTV blog where “Mansard Roof” debuted claims Vampire Weekend are making fun of their preppy image with this, their first, video, but we’re more likely to believe that the director heard the song and offered to take them on a boat to which they said “yes.” Since when is boating ironic? Boating is boating.
