[Sponsored Content] Band of Ballers Artist Profile: Jay Electronica

June 11, 2010

New Orleans-born producer/rapper Jay Electronica's biography reads unlike any other hip-hop artist's. In 2007, he made an interesting mark by unfurling a rap opus based on the score from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. His production style hints at late hip-hop hero J Dilla, and Electronica debuted his skills on the other side of the mic in 2008 for Nas' controversial untitled album. Since early 2009, though, he's brought a lot more into the world—a daughter named Mars (mothered by girlfriend, Erykah Badu), acclaimed single "Exhibit C" and, most recently, a baller's union with Sean Price and Donnis at the 2010 Converse Band of Ballers under the name Bad News. And even though their name was maybe a little too prescient, Jay Electronica hit the court with seriously aggressive defense—fueled by the same intensity he brings to the mic.
