Video: Young L, “What Yo Mind Do”

November 11, 2011

In the past, we've referred to Young L’s music as "two robots building a third robot" and also to "robots running into each other in a room with a heavy echo." Probably some more robot stuff at some point as well. Point is, Young L is really good at making music that exists in this kind of harsh, emotionless plane, but is also still extremely enjoyable to hear. "What Yo Mind Do" is from As I Float: The Great John Nash, his recent Imogen Heap-sampling mixtape, and it's quite possibly his warmest track—not because of anything L is saying, though, his voice is as gruff as ever. It's more just the music, which is warm, enveloping and still very much Young L while sounding like the exact opposite of what he normally does.
