Listen To Leila’s Missy Elliott-Sampling “Bring It (ON)”

The Iranian-born, London-based producer responds to last week’s feature on female producers with a meditative battle cry.

"Recognize Missy" was how Iranian-born, London-based producer Leila signed off her contribution to last week's roundtable feature about how to change male-dominated studio culture. Now the cult artist—who's released records on Aphex Twin's Rephlex Records, XL Recordings, and Warp over the past 16 years—has responded to the feature with "Bring It (ON)," a heart-in-throat beat that samples Missy Elliott's "Checkin' For You" (featuring Lil' Kim) from her 1999 album Da Real World. Leila loops Missy's call of bring it on like it's a meditative battle cry, as if she—and all us of us—should be steeling ourselves for change. Heed that call.
