Sam Gellaitry Drops Bright New EP Short Stories

Stream an all new EP from the 18-year-old Scottish beatsmith via Soulection.

Sam Gellaitry is barely 18, but has been making waves as producer label Soulection's hottest draft pick. The Scottish beatsmith owes a bit to early Hudson Mohawke on Short Stories—specifically, the way his keys shimmer and rattle through wide echoes—but there's a gummy softness indebted to two-step R&B that sits him comfortably alongside Kaytranada and the ilk. "To Earth And Back" is exemplary, with Phantom of the Opera synths crashing into a thick low end and stuttering baby-faced vocal chops. These are sounds for brainy late nights.
