The rise of PinkPantheress last year is one of those rare instances where describing someone as an "overnight success" is actually quite accurate. A pattern emerged at the start of the London teenager's musical career: she'd release a highly addictive song snippet on her TikTok account, it would go viral, then she'd make another one. Rinse and repeat. By the end of 2021 she'd shared her debut album to hell with it, one of our favorite full-lengths of the year and a project that contained "Just for me," our top track of 2021.
PinkPantheress has popped up for features over the course of 2021, appearing on songs by Mura Masa, Willow, and GoldLink. Her new song “Picture in my mind” is her first single of the year, and it's a collaboration with the future pop producing whiz Sam Gelliatry. PinkPantheress's sound still reveres U.K. garage, though there's an undeniable strain of French touch that courses through the song thanks to the glossy key, blown-out drums, and the lovesick back-and-forth between PinkPantheress and Gelliatry's robot vocals. Hear the song in its video above, wherein Pink washes her clothes in a rather chaotic laundry.
