Apple Advertises Beats 1 Radio With A New Pharrell Song

“Freedom!”

June 09, 2015

To celebrate the announcement of its Beats 1 radio station—which promises content 24 hours a day, 7 days a week—Apple unveiled an ad featuring a fresh track from Pharrell. Zane Lowe, who left BBC earlier this year, opens the video, and then Pharrell takes over, singing enthusiastically about freedom as exercisers, commuters, and dancers around the world tune in to find their groove. Like most recent Pharrell songs, this one is lightweight and unabashedly retro, with loping piano, funk guitars, and gospel-tinted backup singers. At the end, Pharrell unveils his best James Brown scream.
