Watch Dam-Funk’s “We Continue” Video

No amount of smoke can hide the funk.

Dam-Funk released a new video today for “We Continue,” the first taste of his forthcoming Invite The Light album. The singer/multi-instrumentalist is working with the same blurping ‘80s funk palette that inspired him in the past. The timing for his latest full-length may be especially good, since ‘80s R&B is having a major revival at the moment: see the No. 1 hit “Uptown Funk,” the latest Snoop Dogg album (Dam Funk and Snoop have collaborated in the past), and the debut project from Tuxedo, who share a record label with Dam-Funk.

“We Continue” preaches the virtues of persistence. “Don’t you ever quit,” Dam-Funk croons. “We continue.” In the clip, the singer dances in the dark, often surrounded by billowing clouds of green smoke. A period-appropriate keytar is involved, and it looks like Stones Throw founder Peanut Butter Wolf shows up at the end.

Invite The Light drops on September 4. You can pre-order it here—the deluxe version is a whopping 20 tracks, and it includes appearances from funk legends like Leon Sylvers. Read FADER's feature on Dam-Funk.
