Bun B Goes Off On The Oscars

Here’s who he thinks was “robbed.”

January 14, 2016

Each year with the announcement of the Oscar nominations, it feels as though the institution isn't paying attention to or is outright ignoring creatives of color. And while it helps to bear in mind that the Academy's membership is overwhelmingly white, elderly and male with occasionally toxic politics, these facts do little to soothe the artists who feel and appear ignored.

So Bun B, like many, was in his feelings about this year's Oscar nominees, and this evening he vented on Twitter. Like many, he felt that Wiz Khalifa's “See You Again,” Idris Elba's performance in Beats Of No Nation, and someone black from Straight Outta Compton all deserved nods.

But he did celebrate the nominations of The Weeknd's “Earned It” for Best Original Song and Adam McKay's The Big Short for Best Picture.

Surprised at Bun B's passion for film? Watch him predict the winners of last year's Oscars below.
