Shlohmo Remixed Tory Lanez’s “Say It”

The producer puts his own spin on the crossover hit.

January 27, 2016

"Say It" was engineered for chart success. Tory Lanez is an avid fan of '90s R&B, and the backbone of this song is a classic, sweet sample from Brownstone. A recognizable riff is an easy way to listeners' hearts; the track was also co-written and produced by Pop of Pop & Oak, who has helped craft several crossover R&B singles in the past. The plan worked: "Say It" cracked the top 25 on the most recent Hot 100.

Today Shlohmo shared an alternate version of the track. (The two have worked together in the past, most notably on "Acting Like," from 2015.) Shlohmo's alterations aren't surprising: the song becomes thicker and sludgier. Listen below.
