During an appearance at Brooklyn Law School on April 19, Cash Money Records co-owners Birdman and Slim revealed that the pair are working on a script for a biopic of their label, according to a recording made by XXL.

Birdman credited Dr. Dre and Ice Cube's work on Straight Outta Compton for getting the project off the ground. “For them to do that and to make it trendsetting, they opened doors for us, and I think that what we have is way more special because we’re in modern times.”

Slim suggested that they've got more than enough material for a compelling film.

There’s a lot of things that people don’t know that we went through, things that happened behind the scenes of the company, things that happened before we were with Universal. So we got a lot of stories, but the way I’m putting it together is gonna be great.

For many fans and former artists of Cash Money, Birdman is definitely the villain of this picture. Last year both he and Slim were sued by Lil Wayne for at least $51 million in damages, a suit that later expanded to include unpaid royalties to Wayne and other Cash Money artists like Drake and Nicki Minaj. However, Birdman has since appeared on stage and on record with Wayne. In December of 2002, in-house producer Mannie Fresh exited Cash Money “over a financial dispute,” but would later return.

Straight Outta Compton has turned hip-hop biopics into hot commodities. There are currently two Tupac films in the works, and RZA is attempting to get an Ol' Dirty Bastard biopic off the ground. Listen to Birdman and Slim discuss the Cash Money Records film below.
