There are video clips on serpentwithfeet's Instagram that I have watched dozens of times. Born in Baltimore and now based in New York, serpentwithfeet (a.k.a. Josiah Wise) has the kind of voice that thwacks you in the chest, so radiant in its gospel runs and Brandy-level poise. There used to be a bunch of exquisite demos on his SoundCloud page but they all disappeared a year or so ago. It turns out that he signed with Tri Angle Records, spent some time recording with noise sculptor Haxan Cloak, and new song "flickering" is the first fruit of their labor — and it's a blinder. I'm starting to feel the cord connecting us two is made of gossamer, he sings on the startling piano and synth drone song. I’m starting to feel there's no cord between us two/ Are we made of gossamer? It's quite the hello. Listen below, and order it here.
