Ciara and Russell Wilson got married in Liverpool, England on July 6 in a ceremony attended by guests including Kelly Rowland. However, the north-western city was not the couple's first choice. According to their wedding planner, Mindy Weiss, they originally planned to wed in North Carolina until the state passed its controversial HB2 law. Weiss told The Knot about the issues she faced planning Ciara and Wilson's nuptials in a new interview.

“I did the whole thing, three times,” Weiss said. “They were first getting married in North Carolina, but they called it off due to the transgender bathroom laws.” The wedding planner added that France was the second location discussed but that too was ruled out for logistical reasons. “They were gonna go to Paris and it ended up being [Couture] Fashion Week,” she added. “And it was really difficult.”

The HB2 bill, which limits protection from discrimination for lesbian, gay, and transgender people in the state, was introduced in March.
