A Tribe Called Quest talked about their Grammy snub in new radio interview

“Just to be honest with y’all, we all thought we was going home with the statue.”

A Tribe Called Quest received zero nominations at the 2017 Grammys for their final album We got it from Here... Thank You 4 Your service, a snub that the group members Consequence and Ali Shaheed Muhammad addressed Wednesday on Sway in the Morning.

The group performed at the 2017 ceremony, which Grammy Chair Emeritus Jimmy Jam claimed was acknowledgement enough. Muhammad disagreed, saying: “To say that the group performed and that should be your consolation prize, I think is very disrespectful to the art that you put forth."

"Just to be honest with y’all, we all thought we was going home with the statue,” Consequence said, later noted that the album was Phife Dawg’s “last effort on Earth."

“I want you to understand the magnitude of that," he said. “They fucked up.... Anybody that come back 18 years after a hiatus and performs the year before, naturally you would assume that I should have something on my mantle in about 12 months!”
