Lala Lala’s new single will make you hella introspective

Hear “Water Over Sex,” the latest off their forthcoming album, The Lamb now.

August 21, 2018

Lala Lala, the Chicago-based indie rock band fronted by songwriter and vocalist Lillie West, is sharing the second single from their forthcoming album, The Lamba project I'm very excited for. "Water Over Sex" finds West looking inward and getting flooded by her own fears; as she explained over email, the song's about being paranoid “that any good fortune I encountered would be subsequently taken from me to ‘balance the scales.'" Over fluid guitar and her own layered vocals, she reflects quietly in the second verse: "I’ve had too much fun when will it get taken? / I love my secrets I’m lucky in making."

Accompanying the track is a crafty stop motion video co-directed by Matthew James-Wilson and Ginette Lapalme, interspersed with webcam clips of West singing to the song. Over email, James-Wilson explains that the video "follows a lamb doll (which Ginette made) continually daydreaming about the objects around her while she tries to live a relaxing life. We wanted to sort of indirectly reference the conflict in the song about how your lifestyle changes after you quit drinking. Since we all live in three different cities and couldn't film Lillie for it, I asked Lillie to send over webcam footage of her singing the song that we could animate over.” Watch and listen to "Water Over Sex" above, and check out Lala Lala's upcoming tour dates below.
