A Crazy Rich Asians sequel is in development
The box office smash looks set to return for another outing.
A sequel to Crazy Rich Asians is already in development, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The movie opened in North America on August 15 and took $35m at the box office in its opening week.
The squel will once again be diretced by Jon M. Chu who is expected to begin filming after he finishes directing the movie adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda's In The Heights, currently scheduled for release in June 2020.
Warner Bros. has not yet officially greenlighted the sequel but is moving forward on development, with both the writing team and producers of the first movie expected to return.
The studio owns the rights to writer Kevin Kwan's trilogy of novels, including 2015’s China Rich Girlfriend and 2017’s Rich People Problems. “We have a plan with Kevin for the next two films,” says producer Brad Simpson.
