The album will be Brockhampton's fourth, following 2017's Saturation trilogy. The Twitter post states that the album was "Made in London." Tweeting around the same time as the album was announced, Brockhampton's Kevin Abstract wrote: "i don’t know if i would have been able to write another record if we didn’t come to europe - thanks for all the positive love man it was surreal this year has been one long ass dream. iridescence."

Brockhampton have spent the last week in London, where they performed their first U.K. headline shows and performed at the Reading & Leeds Festival. Eagle-eyed fans at that festival saw posters for a different Brockhampton album, the best years of our lives. That record was first announced back in June but now appears to have fallen off the group's list of priorities.

So far this year Brockhampton have shared new songs "1997 Diana," "1998 Truman," and "1999 Wildfire."
