Ariana Grande and Mac Miller began dating in 2016, and continued for a year-and-a-half before announcing their split in May. Miller's fans began to blame Grande for his ongoing substance abuse issued, which she rebuked in a statement on Twitter. "I have cared for him and tried to support his sobriety & prayed for his balance for years (and always will of course), but shaming/blaming women for a man's inability to keep his shit together is a very major problem."

Miller and Grande collaborated on her 2013 single "The Way," and she appeared on Miller's 2016 track "My Favorite Part."
