A new film musical featuring the music of Prince is in the works, Variety reports. The Universal Pictures project will use the songs as the backbone of its fictional narrative (a la ABBA's music in Mamma Mia), rather than focus on Prince's life. Entertainment advisor of Prince’s estate Troy Carter will reportedly executive produce the project.
The news caps off a huge year for Prince fans, following an overwhelming number of posthumous releases around The Purple One. Most recently, his estate began rolling out rarely seen music videos on YouTube, Ava DuVernay announced she's helming a Netflix documentary series on his life, and the NBA released Purple Rain inspired jerseys.
