When A$AP Rocky was on trial for assault in Sweden, President Donald Trump sent Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs Robert C. O’Brien to observe the proceedings. The move was celebrated by some fans and condemned by pundits, who saw it as an abuse of O'Brien's role.

It's unclear what, if anything, O'Brien did to help Rocky's case, other than send Swedish prosecutors a vaguely threatening letter. On Wednesday, President Donald Trump announced that O'Brien will become the country's new National Security Advisor. See Trump's tweet below, as caught by Politico's Natasha Bertrand.

Rocky was found guilty of assault on August 14, but avoided jail time and was allowed to return to the United States. Rocky notably avoided thanking President Trump directly for his persistent tweets about his case, something the White House is reportedly salty about.
