Flying Lotus' debut feature film, Kuso, quickly became a cult classic among fans of body horror and experimental electro-jazz after premiering at Sundance in 2017. Today he announced a sophomore cinematic effort titled Ash. Written by Jonni Remler, the plot will folllow a woman who "wakes up on a distant planet and finds the crew of her space station viciously killed, her investigation into what happened setting in motion a terrifying chain of events," per Deadline. "I’ve a strong desire to innovate in the sci-fi space,” he told the site, “and I really want to show the world something they’ve never seen before."
In edition to his directing duties, FlyLo will handle the score, as he did for Kuso, Steven Soderberg's Perfect, and, most recently, the Netflix anime series Yasuke. Casting will kick off within the month, with production set to begin over the summer.
