Azealia Banks rejoins Twitter following news of Elon Musk acquisition

The rapper has been notoriously suspended from the platform multiple times.

Azealia Banks is back on Twitter for the first time since 2020, when her account was suspended — not for the first time — for a series of transphobic tweets. Her return comes following Monday's news that Elon Musk had reached a deal to acquire Twitter for $44 billion.

Early this morning, she posted a screenshot on Instagram announcing her new handle, @Azealiaishere, with the caption "Oh girlssssssssss lmao we are in this bitch." She hasn't yet tweeted from the new account, but as of 12:30 p.m., she's already racked up over 21,000 followers.

Since her initial Instagram post, Banks has posted five more times, letting the accusations spray. Among the accused are Twitter Inc. and its co-founder and former CEO Jack Dorsey, for profiting from the spectacle of George Floyd's murder; Black Lives Matter, for "lin[ing] DNC politician[s' pockets] with money" through their donation platform ActBlue — a factually false claim, though the financial structure of BLM has been called into question of late; and Musk himself, for allegedly using a private investigator to stalk her after she was called to testify in a civil lawsuit brought by Tesla shareholders that Musk eventually settled out of court for $40 million.

The FADER has reached out to representatives of Banks, Twitter, and Musk for comment.
