Two weeks after finishing a successful North American tour behind his ninth album, God Save the Animals, Alex G brought his band to NPR’s flagship office in Washington, D.C. for a Tiny Desk concert. Accompanied by Thomas Kelly’s drums, John Heywood’s bass, Molly Germer’s piano and violin, Samuel Acchione’s electric guitar, and his own acoustic, the Philadelphia indie-rock mainstay coasted through a short-and-sweet, four-track set featuring two songs from the new record as well as one from his previous full-length, House of Sugar, and one from 2015’s Beach Music.

He began with God Save the Animals standouts “Runner” and “Miracles” before moving back in time to 2019 with House of Sugar’s “Gretel” and closing with Beach Music cult classic “Snot.” Between songs, he kept his crowd work brief but repeatedly expressed his gratitude to everyone in the room.
