Asake is a Nigerian artist with a talent for fusing music from the African continent and beyond, creating tracks that frequently entertain Western notions of pop while sounding totally fresh. "2:30," his second single of the year after the Songs You Need-playlisted "Yoga," is another winner. Lush, dreamy Afrobeats meet with hyperactive, IDM-adjacent percussion, a supremely rewarding collision of textures that he's played with before but sound no less fresh.
A press release describes both the song and video as "a celebration of authenticity and individuality, about embracing one’s true self and recognizing the value that comes from one’s roots."
