Bandcamp votes to unionize

Bandcamp workers voted 31-7 today in favor of forming Bandcamp United.

May 19, 2023

Back in March, a year after their company was purchased by Epic Games, Bandcamp workers announced their intention to form a union called Bandcamp United. The road to such a union has been rocky: Last month, indie label Topshelf Records claimed Bandcamp executives had asked them to cease their support for unionizing efforts at the online audio distribution platform. But Bandcamp and Bandcamp United have now jointly announced that eligible workers at the company voted 31-7 today (May 19) “in favor of forming Bandcamp United, a union represented by the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU). The vote results now await certification by the National Labor Relations Board, with a collective bargaining process to follow,” the BCU press team note.
