50 Cent is the official sponsor of AFC Rumney, a Welsh soccer team for girls.
It is reported that 50 agreed to the deal, which will see the team play in jerseys with both his and G Unit's name on them, after being asked by a parent who worked on a recent tour of his.
50 Cent is not the first musician to sponsor a soccer team in the U.K. Motorhead, The Prodigy, Fatboy Slim, Iron Maiden, and Mogwai have all helped out their local teams in the past, while Ed Sheeran is currently the main sponsor of Championship side Ipswich Town.
AFC Rumney coach Richie Brown said the club was “over the moon” with the rapper's support. On the club’s Facebook page, he said: “We feel absolutely over the moon that our u14s Girls have been sponsored by World Known Superstar Actor / Music Producer Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson and G Unit.”
Brown told Sky News that the investment means the club can start to plan for the future. “I’ve been involved in girls’ football for almost 10 years now so I’m promoting it this side, trying to do the best I possibly can, and when you’ve got someone as high profile a name as him, you just know he’s going to take it to the next level.”
50 Cent has spent this year celebrating the 20th anniversary of his studio debut, Get Rich or Die Tryin'. One date of his live tour was called off due to high heat while another left a man injured after 50 mistakenly threw a microphone at him.
