Joni Mitchell performed “Both Sides Now” during her set at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards. Mitchell was joined by Brandi Carlile plus Jacob Collier, Allison Russell, Sista Strings, Lucius, and Blake Mills. Though written by Mitchell, the track was first recorded by Judy Collins, but Mitchell re-recorded the track on her 1969 album Clouds and, famously, again with an orchestral arrangement on her 2000 album Both Sides Now.
Mitchell, who is nominated in the Best Folk Album category at this year’s Grammys, has been making a quiet return to public life in the years following her 2015 hospitalisation. She appeared at the Kennedy Center Awards in 2021 and introduced Brandi Carlile’s performance at the 2022 Grammys alongside Bonnie Raitt. Later that year she played a surprise set at the Newport Folk Festival. Last summer she headlined a show at Washington’s Gorge Amphitheatre.

Earlier this week it was announced that Mitchell will perform two Los Angeles shows at the Hollywood Bowl in October, her first dates in the city in over 25 years.
